Bathroom Designs – How to Make Your Dream Bathroom Come to Life

Friday, May 19th, 2017

Bathroom designs are as varied as the people who create them. With modern technology and brilliant minds available at the seat of your computer, any idea you can think of is possible. From bold looks that speak of intelligence and sophistication, to soft designs that create a warm and welcoming feel, whatever your vision may be you can make it happen.

If you’re one of the many people who are about to embark on a bathroom renovation, here are some great hints to transition your ideas into reality.

The first thing to consider is the amount of space you have to work with. The amenities of your bathroom should be proportional to the amount of room available. A big bathtub for example would not look right in a small space just as a small bathtub would not look good in a big space. It’s important therefore to divide up your spacial elements in a logical way. This will assist the flow of the bathroom and allow for integrity throughout its design.

The second thing to consider is color. Color defines the entire atmosphere of your bathroom. It can make a small room huge and a big room cozy and soothing. The color should also speak of your personality and adhere to the design themes of the rest of your home.

Generally speaking, it’s not advisable to use more than two colors for your bathroom. It’s also not a good idea to use colors that are more than a few spaces removed from one another on the color scale. Big variations in color often make the bathroom seem loud and uninviting, while subtle color changes make a bathroom warm and comfortable.

A great way to bring color into your bathroom is with tiles. Tiles are ideal because they can be included on the walls and they are one of the only ways to create mosaics in the bathroom while maintaining a sophisticated feel. Soft colors will give the bathroom an open atmosphere, and dark colors will make the bathroom feel smaller and inviting. Vertically placed tiles in an alternating color scheme will make the room appear larger, as will bright lights, large mirrors, and small amenities like a recessed shower or a small vanity.

The materials you choose for your bathroom can also help to define the design theme. For example, a bathroom designed in marble gives a sophisticated, modern feel, while a bathroom with wallpaper and ceramic flooring gives a homely feel.

Installing sound board behind the drywall can do wonders for the sound elements of the bathroom as well. No one likes to feel like they’re being heard while in the bathroom, so this extra muffling of sound will add comfort and ease to all who use it.

Lastly, you should be very mindful about how your amenities flow into one another. Do you have a small shower and a large toilet? Do you want a vanity that is made out of wood while your shower is made out of stone? All the elements of the bathroom should flow together seamlessly, and one fixture should complement the next. Unless you have a design specialist that can guide you through your design ideas, big variations in style should be reserved for things like nick nacks and throw rugs, not for larger items like toilets and vanities.

Bathroom Designs Idea – Can I Design My Own Bathroom?

Wednesday, May 17th, 2017

A bathroom designs idea — can I really design my own bathroom? Why not! Today, the bathroom is much more than just a room for grooming and a place to read. Bathrooms can be a good place for home exercise equipment and a good music system or TV, for example. What better way to unwind from the day than a soothing shower or warm soak in the tub with candles and relaxing music. So start a notebook. When you get a bathroom designs idea, write it down. Soon you’ll have defined the bathroom that’s just right for you.

Design my own bathroom? You bet you can! When designing your own bathroom, some of the questions you should ask (and answer) include:

1. How big will the bathroom be? Bathroom sizes include:

o Master bathroom or luxury bathroom – includes toilet, bidet, two sinks, separate tub and shower, whirpool or spa and perhaps more, depending on your budget. Some master bathrooms are large enough to have exercise equipment, and they are subdivided into smaller compartments for privacy depending on what is needed.
o Full bathroom – includes toilet, sink, and combination tub/shower plumbed along one wall. Typical dimensions are 5×7 or 5×8 feet.
o Half bathroom – includes sink and toilet only. It can be placed on the main floor of your home to reduce the morning rush, and the family doesn’t have to go upstairs to use the toilet. Common dimensions are between 3×6 and 4×5 feet, about the size of a smaller closet.
o Small bathroom – includes corner shower stall, toilet and sink and typical dimensions are 6×6 feet.
o Childrens bathroom – can be a three-quarter bathroom or full bathroom depending on the size of your home and how many children you have. Children’s bathrooms should have plenty of storage and cubbies that are safe and colorful. If several kids will use the same bathroom, a wall or half wall between the toilet and the rest of the bathroom may be a good idea.
o Guest bathroom – can be a three-quarter bathroom or a full bathroom.

2. Are you planning to have convenient storage in the bathroom? A design my own bathroom person will always include bathroom storage. You can find a combination sink/vanity for extra storage. A great bathroom designs idea is you can never have too much bathroom storage! Use the wall space wisely with shelves or cabinets over the commode or almost anywhere in the bathroom. Consider using corner shelves, and hang towel bars above one another. Add a medicine cabinet with mirror to your bathroom to store grooming supplies, medicine or toiletries. Traditionally, the medicine cabinet was always located above the vanity or sink, but nowadays you can place it elsewhere in the bathroom. Add a shower caddy to your corner shower for extra storage.

3. Do you have enough lighting planned for your bathroom? Natural light is an important element in bathrooms. A window, a wall or roof skylight will bring in natural light, a view or a dramatic skyscape. Having a skylight that opens is great because moisture build-up is reduced. Artificial lighting is also vital and often overlooked in a bathroom. Without good lighting, the decor and the personality of your bathroom can not be developed properly. Lighting for your bathroom can be natural and manufactured. Lighting should be used to brighten and define the space since both can affect your mood and how you feel inside your home.

4. Another bathroom designs idea – what about ventilation? If you live in climates prone to mold and mildew, you should install an exhaust fan in your bathroom. Ventilating fans are sized by the number of cubic feet of air they move each minute (cfm). A design my own bathroom person will have a good ventilation system that can move the air from the bathroom to the outdoors about eight times per hour or once every 7 or 8 minutes. Bathrooms generate humidity and moisture that can penetrate ceilings, floors and countertops. Remove odors and humidity from a bathroom by installing a power ventilator large enough to do the job. You do not want your walls to break into a sweat every time someone showers.

Design my own bathroom? Go for it! A design my own bathroom person will read as much as possible, thinking through what is wanted and needed in this important room. A bathroom designs idea will range from materials used to the bathroom layout to the finished colors. Having a successful bathroom project is about making informed decisions while planning and while building. Continue the process of learning as much as you can before building begins. How much can you spend, what style will the bathroom be, what size ventilation should you have and so on. Your answer to each bathroom designs idea question is what will guide you so you’ll have the best bathroom ever.

Bathroom Decorating Guide

Monday, May 15th, 2017

A well designed bathroom can add a lot of value to your home. When redecorating your bathroom there a number of things you should consider.

All bathroom decorating projects should begin with careful planning. Having everything planned out at an early stage will reduce the chances of problems occurring later on. Since the bathroom tends to be one of the smallest rooms in the home you may need to make decisions on what items of furniture it is most important to have. For example, if there is not room for both a shower and a bath it may be necessary to choose between them or consider a combination shower bath. The layout of the plumbing can also be a factor in where you place certain items of furniture.

Typically when decorating a bathroom it is best to choose a colour scheme made up of light, natural colours. Buying a bathroom suite rather than separate items of furniture can be a good way of making sure you have furniture that fits into your chosen colour scheme.

As a way of saving money you should consider doing some DIY. Clearly there are some jobs, such as those involving plumbing, where it is wise to employ an experienced professional to do the work for you. However tiling, installing fittings such as hooks and towel rails and other small jobs can easily be performed by you.

If space in your bathroom is limited then choosing the right type of furniture and fittings can make a big difference. Choosing a fitted bath rather than a freestanding one will take up much less floor space and make your bathroom appear less cluttered. Similarly a corner basin can have the same effect.

Finally in bathroom design it is the finishing touches that can make a huge difference to the overall appearance of the room. Using accessories such as soap dishes, mirrors and towel heaters can be just what you need to complete your ideal bathroom.
